Anger Management Courses

Our anger management courses are a series of six x 2 hour workshops created and developed by Elizabeth Friend.

The aim:

•    To investigate anger in general
•    To consider each individual's anger and its causes
•    To offer techniques which can assist in understanding and controlling anger

Anger is an important emotion as it indicates a response to a threat or problem and needs to be recognised. However, if anger is unjustified or leads to violence or becomes a threat to others it needs to be addressed. These workshop sessions will assist the individual to understand anger and to learn new skills to deal with their anger appropriately.

Desired Outcomes:

•    To have an understanding of anger and how it affects ourselves & others
•    To have established what to do & think when we feel angry so we can remain in charge of our anger and not have it be in charge of us.
•    To work towards finding strategies to dissolve some anger issues
•    To have an understanding of calming techniques to assist when anger is aroused

During the sessions we will consider the following:

•    What makes us angry and why?
•    Understanding how others read our body language
•    Non verbal communications
•    Dealing with conflict in different situations
•    Being assertive not aggressive and understanding the difference
•    Being able to ask for what we want effectively
•    Finding ways to help us stay in control when becoming angry
•    Relaxation techniques
•    Dealing with criticism without loosing control
•    Understanding how we express our anger (turning it inwards or lashing out?)
•    A plan of action for the future in dealing with anger

Understanding anger and working with a wide variety of techniques to help control and dissolve anger.

Initial 30mins one-to-one session with each participant plus 6 x 2 hour sessions

Case example

One young woman was turning her anger inwards and self harming, was able to speak up for the first time, stand her ground and ask for help. She stopped attacking herself and sorted her financial problems. It was the first time I saw her smile in 6 weeks.

Case example 2

A man going through a difficult relationship had been refused custody of his young children as he was showing anger with social services. After 4 sessions, he changed his behaviour & approach and is now happily caring for his children.
